Headline ideas

Pick the one closest to your news and fill in the brackets.

  • [Company] opens in [city] to help [who] [do what]
  • [Founder] launches [Company], a new [type of business] for [who]
  • New [type of business] [Company] opens at [street], [city]
  • [Company] launches online to serve [who] across [area]

Common mistakes

  • Writing a mission statement instead of saying what you sell.
  • Claims like "the best in town" with nothing to back them up.
  • Leaving out where to find you.
  • A founder quote that repeats the paragraph above it.
  • Waiting months after opening. The opening is the news.

Where to share it

  • Publish it on your website, and link to it from your social pages and your email signature.
  • Send it to local business news, your chamber of commerce and community newsletters.
  • Share it with everyone who helped you start: suppliers, early customers, friends and family. They are your first readers.

Questions

Is opening a business news?

To local readers, customers and partners, yes. Say what is new and useful about it.

What if we work online only?

Give the web address and the area you serve instead of a street address.

Should I include prices?

If you share them publicly, yes. Starting prices are enough.

What should I publish next?

Your first milestone: a new service, a hire, a partner or a number you are proud of.

Can I announce a business that is not open yet?

Yes, if you have a firm opening date. Say the date clearly, and publish a short update on the day you open.
